My father farmed 70 square meters of vines. He made his own wine and sold it in barrels directly to local restaurant owners.
Then in 1952 when the Irouleguy wine cellar was created, my father joined. He vinified a part of his harvest for his family to drink and brought the rest to the cooperative.
I have always been in viticulture. As a small child, I accompanied my father to his plot. I saw him make wine, I smelt the aromas and crushed the grapes with my feet... Viticulture is a part of me.
In the years 1976 to 1977, Alexandre Bergouignan, founding member of the cooperative and a friend of my father came to see us. His idea was to cultivate the sloped land, difficult to farm for cattle and plant vines in terraces where it would be possible to carry out some mechanized work. At the time agriculture in the Basque Country was a synonym for livestock farming. Few people believed in Alexandre’s ideas. He was fighting alone... But my father was convinced by his ideas.
So Alexandre found us some land. We set up a GAEC (Farm Association Group) with two other farmers and we planted 8 hectares of vines in 1978. For organization and practical reasons we ended up separating our plots.
Today I farm almost 6 hectares of vines, I raise cows for meat and I manage a holiday cottage. For the rest of the story, my son is thinking about taking over...

The wines from the Cellar are the fruit of the work and the values from which the wine growers and the members of the cooperative personally identify themselves.
